The CD documents some of the music used in various Plain Dealer projects in 2007. I always create complete songs but usually only a small segment is used on the Web. The SOUNDBYTES project features entire compositions. This page also features some music that never made it to cleveland.com and is still waiting. Make selections by clicking song titles on CD label below. Some links:

WHY CREATE MUSIC?

It's about as simple as this: As a Web producer you eventualy get past straight news video and into the feature end of things, and you start to think, “I really wish I had some music for this segment!” Just ask Dale Omori!

But you can't just pull a song off a CD because you don't want to pay a royalty every time someone calls up the video; not even Mediastorm wants to spend that kind of money! And you soon realize, much to your surprise, that royalty-free music is NOT FREE, and you realize that it's hard to find something that works even if you're willing to pay for each song. Brian Storm reported that he spent three days searching royalty free sites for just one project!

So, as a Web producer you hope some crazy idiot on staff gets psyched up about creating audio for your video. I am that crazy idiot.
